It’s the one-year anniversary of the Secret Friend Society, so for the rest of this week, we’ll be celebrating by inviting friends of the Society to share with us their very own secret friends!

Alice and Sara
(art by Sara Rosenbaum)
Only I could see her, but everyone in my first-grade class knew her name. She used to get hurt a lot. I liked having someone to take care of; I liked to be the rescuer. When she broke her leg I made her a cast out of wet paper towels. After that the other kids would ask me how she was feeling, and if her leg was better. When we sat in a circle, they always left a space beside me for her.
