The Toronto Comic Arts Festival is about to get underway this weekend, from May 9-10! This year’s guest list is absolutely huge, and there will definitely be something for everyone. It will be held at the Toronto Reference Library, and will be FREE to the public! So really, there’s no excuse not to drop by and check it out!

I will be in attendance for both days, and will be signing, sketching, drawing, you name it. I will also have copies of both Jellaby books, the Jellaby sketchbook from last year, as well as original pages for sale from both books. I’m also scheduled to take part in the Kids Draw! panel on the Sunday (full details below):

Do you wanna learn how to draw? Join a fantastic lineup of kids’ cartoonists as they teach kids the basics of cartooning! Cartoonists include Frank Cammuso (Knights of the Lunch Table), Tom Fowler (MAD Magazine), John Martz (Drawn.ca, Kayak magazine) and Kean Soo (Jellaby). Moderated by Naseem Hrab of the Canadian Children’s Book Centre.

And since I always like to post Jellaby images with these little news posts, and because I’m running out of new material to post, I thought I’d let you all take a look at an unfinished, “deleted scene” from Monster in the City. This little scene would’ve taken place at the start of Chapter 7, right after Jellaby and the kids arrive at the Ex.

I decided not to include this scene in the final book because that drawing of the clown really did creep me out (I was also fighting some space limitations throughout the production of the book, so certain things did have to go, unfortunately). Clowns are scary, man.
